Another 50 to come...

Travelled south of the border on the weekend to help my partner Y's brother celebrate his 50th birthday.

I'm in the middle of 50ths I think as only half my friends and acquaintances have past the half way mark to their own personal centenaries.

Y is happily past hers and her brother is a middle child, so one more to go on her family's side, and I've got one left of my siblings to go.

K, my younger sister has discovered the concept of fitness and now runs half marathons, is a personal trainer and makes her siblings both proud and sad - proud that she has achieved so much and sad that the rest of us have already started a decline from general fitness that is perhaps to be expected at the age of 50!

K is winning in her challenge but we all await her 50th in a couple of years to see if it is all too good to be true. On present form I'm sure she'll win :-)

er, see ya at half past...

How will I look in 20 years time?

I was at a shopping mall today here in beautiful Canberrrrrra (the rrrrs are a comment on the very cold weather we have here in the southern hemisphere winter!), and I saw an old guy in his old 1970s Volvo station wagon; a shudder of future vision hit me and I saw myself in my Saab 9000 in 20 years time and some young whipper snapper making a value judgement on old codgers on the road in a sad old example of the less sexy of the two Swedish car makers.

Let's face it, the Volvo 244 was NOT a sexy machine. You don't have to be a fan of Top Gear to know it was a dog then and still a dog today. I just wonder how the world will view my Saab in 20 years time.

er, see ya at half past...

About this Blog

A mate of mine has a nice saying that will just about answer any question posed.

His answer to just about any question he is asked where he couldn't give a stuff, "Er, about half past....", doesn't really mean much and is really another way of saying "I don't know, and don't really care", however it dawned on me that it does fit where I am in life at the moment.

Don't ask me when we started using it, but as I enter my 50th year on this planet, perhaps it is appropriate that I write about life now that I'm "just on half past".
